After more than a decade in New York City advertising, Meredith Opsahl knew what it felt like to run on empty. Pilates became more than a workout. It was a way to reconnect with her body, quiet the noise, and feel strong again.
In 2020, she brought that feeling to Charlotte with the first BK Pilates Carolinas studio in South End. What started as one studio has grown into multiple locations and a community built around thoughtful movement, genuine connection, and the belief that taking care of your body should feel good.
Today, BK Pilates Carolinas continues to grow, but the heart of it remains the same: creating a place where people can move with intention, feel supported, and leave feeling better than when they walked in.
Movement is medicine. And how you move matters.
I’d treat that last line almost like a pull quote rather than another paragraph.
We honor the foundations of Pilates while evolving the practice for modern bodies and everyday life. The goal isn't simply to get through a workout. It's to move better because of it.
No two bodies move exactly the same. Our instructors offer the guidance, challenge, and modifications you need to move confidently and keep progressing.
Thoughtful movement creates lasting change. Every class is designed to build strength, mobility, balance, and a deeper mind-body connection.
Everything we do comes back to one idea: Be Kind To Your Body. That means moving with purpose, listening to what your body needs, and building strength in a way that supports you far beyond the studio.
The workout may bring you in, but the community is what makes BK feel like home. Come as you are, know you'll be seen, and expect some familiar faces along the way.
BK Pilates is grounded in the principles of Joseph Pilates' original method, Contrology, while bringing a contemporary approach to the way we move today.
Our comprehensively certified instructors focus on form, alignment, breath, control, and intentional progression. Using premium Balanced Body equipment, every class is designed to challenge you while giving you the guidance and options you need to move safely and confidently.
Whether you're stepping onto a reformer for the first time or Pilates has been part of your life for years, the goal is the same: to help you move better, feel stronger, and build a practice that lasts.
BK Pilates Carolinas is led by people who believe deeply in the power of thoughtful movement, genuine connection, and creating a studio experience that feels every bit as good as the workout itself.
After more than a decade in advertising, Meredith traded agency life for a career centered around movement, connection, and helping people feel better in their bodies.
Her own experience with Pilates inspired her to bring BK to Charlotte in 2020, and what began with one South End studio has since grown into a community across the Carolinas.
For Meredith, BK has never been about creating just another place to work out. It's about building spaces where people feel welcomed, challenged, supported, and excited to come back.
With a lifelong background in dance, Rebecca has always been drawn to movement. After beginning her career as a graphic designer and photographer, she found her way to teaching through yoga and eventually Pilates, earning her comprehensive Balanced Body certification in 2021.
Rebecca believes movement can be a powerful tool for connection, growth, and transformation. Her teaching blends classical and contemporary Pilates, with an emphasis on helping clients better understand their bodies, recognize their potential, and continue building strength and confidence in their practice.
